Trieste is a city to be savored slowly – from its historic cafés to its quiet green corners and sunlit coastlines. Here are some local insights to help you settle in and enjoy your stay like a Triestino.

Getting Around

  • On foot: The best way to discover Trieste. Most sights are within walking distance – and you’ll notice how the city gently shifts between Habsburg elegance and Mediterranean charm.

  • Public transport: Efficient and easy to use. Buses connect every part of the city. We recommend downloading the Trieste Trasporti app for real-time info and tickets.

  • Historic Tram: The Tram di Opicina (when running) is a unique experience, climbing steep tracks into the hills.

  • Taxis: Not always easy to flag down on the street – best to book by phone or app.

  • Shared City E-bikes & Bikes: Great for cruising along the seafront or getting to Barcola.​
